More on the wetlands and the planting July 2015

Reflections in one of the lakes from the adjacent pine plantation

Bridges across the wetlands and lakes are a frequent feature of the walkways around the wetlands

Twenty years ago there were no flaxes on the property. Today they number in the thousands. A range of varieties have been planted. most flourish while others have shortened lives while they struggle with the demanding environment.

There are many pathways and driveways on the property, in this case bordered with pohutukawa trees.

The lakes and wetlands often overflow in some months to stretch across different parts of the property.

Flaxes and cabbage trees are now abundant around the edges of the wetlands.
